Fire Operations research at the Community Protection trials - Fort Providence, NWT

The FERIC Wildland Fire Operations Research Group and its partners are using the Community Protection trials as a study site for on-going research projects. The site was originally used for the International Crown Fire Modelling Experiment in the mid and late 1990's. The site is valuable for fire operations research because crown fires can be lit during periods of high fire hazard.

Please click on the following links for more information on individual projects:

    - Effect of fuel modification on fire behavior

      - Thinning effect on crown fire - 2 case studies
      - Fuel management - replicated plots
      - Fuel management economics
    - Debris Pile management
    - Sprinkler Effectiveness
    - Smoke detection
    - ATV's as a potential ignition source
